Paintings 2003 - 2013

These works were an exploration of water and the ways it is depicted: as a container and as what is contained, its presence and its effects, as a memory and as a future. Included is a short series of works, Talismans, that focus on a fung shui principal of "chi", or energy, being directed by images of nine fish, eight red or gold, and one black. According to the lore, these images would bring prosperity into the home. I wanted to see to what extent of abstraction the chi could still perceive the fish as fish.
